The MLS season is almost over, with a win in their last game Seattle could finish with 51 points. This would put them equal with the first place team in the East (NY) but because the West has been the stronger conference all year Seattle could finish 3rd, 4th, or 5th based on the results from this weekends games. It has been said that the current playoff system rewards the lower seeded teams and I have to agree, until we go to a single bracket system were 1st plays 8th and 2nd plays 7th and so on it will always provoke controversy in the fans, players, and coaches!
Here is Seattle's various playoff scenarios!
Manchester City vs. Lech Poznan highlights (Europa Cup) 3-1
Seattle's main goal scorer has been on a bit of a draught for the last 6 weeks. That hasn't distracted him or the team as they have rolled to a 5 game unbeaten streak in the league. I have a feeling Fredy's goals will come at just the right time!!
New York Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution (MLS) 2-0
It was major news the last 3 days, Wayne Rooney wanted out of Manchester United and Sir Alex couldn't believe his ears! But stop the presses and retract all the articles stating he will play for Man City, "Rooney just Signed a 5 Year Extension" all he had to do was act like a brat and pout a bit and he got DOUBLE the MONEY for the next 5 years yup $285,000 a week for 5 years!! Cha Ching!! And here is how he did it!
Red Bull Salzburg vs. Juventus highlights (Europa Cup) 1-1
In a league that has a salary cap of $2.3 million dollars a lot of players barely survive as professionals. Then we have Designated Players who make $2.3 million a season and they either produce see: Juan Pablo Angel or they flop see: Freddie Ljunberg. Who is shown the respect?
Athletico Madrid vs. Rosenborg highlights (Europa Cup) 3-0
It's may not have meaning like winning a cup or league, but individual recognition is always a good thing. Player of the week, Goal of the week, and Player of the month are all great honors that Steve Zakuani continues to pick up!!
Metalist vs. Sampadoria highlights (Europa Cup) 2-1
With Portland and Vancouver entering the MLS next year the league looks to go from 30 regular season games to 34, meaning we would have 17 home and away. "The Don" has other ideas?
Sporting Lisbon vs. Gent highlights (Europa Cup) 5-1
First England pulled out of 2022, now the Russians have pulled out of 2022, the USA now has to compete with Australia, Japan, South Korea, and Qatar for the 2022 World Cup.
CSKA Moscow vs. Palermo highlights (Europa Cup) 3-0
For your weekend soccer viewing pleasure here are all the games that are on TV!
Dinamo Kiev vs. AZ Alkmar highlights (Europa Cup) 2-1
Seattle has a deep roster, they have players that can step on the field and compete. The MLS in doesn't really reward this with their expansion draft. Seattle can only protect 11 of it's players and with our 2 main rivals joining the league we are inevitably going to lose players. Who do they protect and who do they roll the dice with?
Sparta Prague vs. Lausanne highlights (Europa Cup) 3-3
They took Seattle's NBA team and moved it to OKC, but in the end it didn't matter because the fans have found a winner they so desperately wanted in the Seattle Sounders.Seattle averages 36,000 fans a game. Seattle is not even on this list and yet the MLS is still growing!
FC Porto vs. Besiktas highlights (Europa Cup) 3-1
Gianluca Vialli is known as a very good goalscorer . He also has had the distinction of playing in Italy and England and Managing Chelsea in England. He has written a book which gives some very good insight about both countries footballing cultures and is definitely worth a Saturday afternoon read.
Young Boys vs. Odense highlights (Europa Cup) 4-2
