Sounders training camp starts today who will make the team and who won't? Sounders news and notes here.
Rumor out in the mill is that Seattle offered Diego Forlan insane contract to come to Seattle this year (Yes the Golden boot winner from 2010 World Cup) pretty Audacious if you ask me!
Big news comes out of England, over the weekend two very famous commentators (Their voices are on FIFA 11) made some very sexist remarks about a young female official who ran the line for the Liverpool Wolverhampton game. Looks like they might be looking for work soon!
US Soccer is starting to do things right, exposing young talent to the professional experience and linking them with teams over sea's. As a result two new Americans joined the professional ranks over the weekend.
It's starting to look like a who's who of World Soccer showing up in New York, the only question that remains is when will they actually have a team?
It's called the silly season for a reason, right now in Europe Jan 1-31 is the transfer window. Players and teams can make moves, negotiate contracts, and start rumors a plenty, but it is also silly because you see things like this and wonder where the money comes from and goes?
Over in Asia they are down to the final 4 in the Asian Cup, Japan will play South Korea and Australia will play Uzbekistan. The games are being held in Qatar and attendance has been pitiful with most games averaging less than 10,000 fans, it makes you wonder what 2022 will look like?
Villarreal 2 – Real Sociedad 1 (La Liga, January 23, 2011)
Over the weekend Aussie Kevin Muscat had one of the worst tackles I have seen in a while, now he may be punished for quite some time and potentially have to retire because of the disciplinary action. In his defense being slow and old may have contributed to his missed time tackle!
Special 1 TV
He held down the midfield for the USA this past summer in South Africa, being the son of the coach has had it's disadvantages but Michael Bradley has proven his worth over and over again on the field. Now playing in the Bundesliga for the worst team in the league Bradley is "In some kind of Limbo"
Real Madrid 1 – Mallorca 0 (La Liga, January 23, 2011)
This being the so called "Silly Season" lets look at players "who wouldn't dare turn in a transfer request or leave their clubs" we all know now a days players play just as much for the money as they do the badge but it wasn't always like that!
Showboat 1-24-11
He currently is the Technical Director of the Toronto FC, but apparently that doesn't stop him talking about the other options he has!! I don't think it bodes well for Toronto and they will again be a train wreck north of the 49th!
Valencia 4 – Malaga 3 (La Liga, January 22, 2011)
They call him Rooney Jr or Wayne's little brother but in New York they are just hoping he can fit in and be one of the guys. He could have followed in big brothers foot steps but it just didn't work out.
Barcelona 3 – Racing Santander 0 (La Liga, January 22, 2011)
It was a weekend for "Hattricks" with Berbatov hitting for ManU, Van Persie hitting for Arsenal, Gomez hitting for Bayern Munich, and Fabiano hitting 3 for Sevilla.
Sevilla 4 – Levante 1 (La Liga, January 22, 2011)
We all have soccer hero's we followed growing up, I followed Marco Van Basten, I watched him at Ajax and with the Dutch in the victorious Euro 88 squad, then he moved to my favorite team of all time AC Milan and sparked a dutch revolution for the rosso nero. So when I read an article someone has written about following a player their whole career I can relate! Steve Bull scored 306 goals for Wolves, here is his Top 20.
Getafe 1 – Espanyol 3 (La Liga, January 23, 2011)
Another part of the "Silly Season" is when clubs are also sold, Man U was said to be offered up for $2.4 Billion dollars. Now Newcastle United could find itself with an American Icon as an owner Vince "The Man" McMahon could bring his over the top style to the EPL.
Almeria 3 – Osasuna 2 (La Liga, January 23, 2011)
The USA threw the babes to the wolves and they ran with it pretty well Saturday night, two forwards stood out for the USA, and two center mids did an above average job, but come Febuary 9th look for the A team!
AC Milan 2 – Cesena 0 (Serie A, January 23, 2011)
UEFA has introduced a "Fair Play Rule" it is a salary cap so to speak and also a way to even out the free spending clubs and the minnows of the league. The rules state clubs must break even over a three-year period, club owners will only be allowed to put in up to €15million a year but as equity, not as loans. That figure would then drop to €10million annually. Conversely, the clubs will be able to spend as much as they want on stadiums, training facilities and youth football. Failure to abide by the rules will result in UEFA applying a range of sanctions from warnings to a transfer ban to possibly even exclusion from European tournaments, I say why not just institute a Salary cap to really make it even!
Bologna 3 – Lazio 1 (Serie A, January 23, 2011)
Go and vote for your "Goal of the Week" and I will post the winner on Friday!
Bari 0 – Napoli 2 (Serie A, January 23, 2011)
It is hard to fathom with all the talent that has come before them but Barcelona has put together a team that could be "The Greatest of All Time?"
