The Sounders played at the weekend and again came away second best to the NY Redbulls.
Seattle had to make some shifts to their lineup and rookie Carrasco got his first start.
Seattle really didn't have one player impress on the pitch Saturday night, but the Redbulls on the other hand had one! It seems the 18 year old has the world at his feet!
He is suppose to be Seattle's goal scorer/play maker but as he has done in the past two years Fredy Montero's disappearing act in key stretches of the match again lets the team down.
We have to always find someone or something to blame when it isn't going right, and now it is the schedule.
It was opening weekend in the MLS and lots of goals were scored, lets look at the Good, Bad, and Ugly of the opening weekend.(notice what's at the top of the list for the bad.
Viva Futbol Vol. 69
It's a story line if used in a movie it just wouldn't be believed. A car accident so vicious the vehicle is sheered in two, one dies, a star player is injured so bad that it is feared he would never play again (broken tibia & femur, crushed eye socket, lacerated bladder, broken elbow, and bleeding on the brain) 18 months later he starts his first game since the accident, the day before the driver of that crash was sentenced to 2 years in prison. 7 minutes into the second half Charlie Davies came full circle.
New York Red Bulls 1 – Seattle Sounders 0 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
One American who has had a great season so far in England seen it all disappear over the weekend, another American made history over the weekend.
DC United 3 – Columbus Crew 1 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
Hampden Park is hailed as the spiritual home of Scottish soccer, the place where some say modern soccer was truly born, the place where legends such as Pele and Diego Maradona admitted to being astonished by the famous “Hampden Roar,” but this historic stadium in Glasgow’s south side could now be just as conclusively defined as a soothing buffer zone in one of sport’s fiercest rivalries.
Tackle of the Week
Americans toil every weekend in many leagues over sea's, one player that was billed 6 years ago as a savior to American soccer is doing his best in the Turkish 2nd division.
Houston Dynamo 0 – Philadelphia Union 1 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
It was a scandal made for day time soap's, married National team captain sleeps with his teammates girl right before the World Cup. Coach strips him of his captaincy and team plays like shit at the Cup. Now with the team still struggling to find form the Cheater is back as Captain.
LA Galaxy 1 – New England Revolution 1 (MLS, March 20, 2011)
Endless desire to win, never give up, and fight to the last whistle. Manchester United kept their hopes for the treble alive over the weekend with a win at home against Bolton.
Vancouver Whitecaps 4 – Toronto FC 2 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
In another sign that the people who dish out the disciplinary actions against players and teams just don't get it. Joe "Jaws" Jordan was slapped with a ban for being the victim of a headbutt.
Colorado Rapids 3 – Portland Timbers 1 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
Imagine growing up on a island in Thailand, yes it's idyllic and beautiful! But for a child your space to play is limited, sports are out of the question, and fishing is a staple. The story of Panyee FC is one that makes Soccer the Beautiful Game!(It's worth the 5 minutes to watch)
Chivas USA 2 – Sporting Kansas City 3 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
Their is a movie out there called "Rise & Shine" it is the story of Jay DeMerit and his struggle to make it in the game. His story is the kind of Hollywood story we laugh at but he lived it and made it a reality.
San Jose Earthquakes 0 – Real Salt Lake 1 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
The Millennium Stadium is a beautiful place to play soccer, but when Wales welcome England to the Millennium Stadium this month for a European Championship Qualifier with pride worth far more than points to Gary Speed’s young dragons will Englands captaincy issues continue to cause issues on the field for the 3 lions?
FC Dallas 1 – Chicago Fire 1 (MLS, March 19, 2011)
