The Seattle Sounders made the long trip down to Costa Rica on Wednesday, returning home with a 2-1 victory and an undefeated record in CONCACAF group play. The last two days was the first games in the Champions League group stages, a few records fell also during these games. Ryan Giggs continued breaking records.
In a sign to the rest of the world that the USA is coming to it's own in the Soccer world. Former USMNT coach Bob Bradley will be hired by Egypt to be their next men's national team coach.
Interesting twist with a player currently on the US Men's National Team, will he or won't he?
UEFA Europa League kicks off today and you can watch online here.
Herediano 1 – Seattle Sounders 2 (CONCACAF Champions League, September 14, 2011)
Ronaldo was hacked, whacked, and jacked during his game in Zagreb. He blames his good looks, money, and great skill? oh and the Ref.
Columbus Crew 2 – Houston Dynamo 2 (MLS, September 14, 2011)
A tank of a striker at 6 foot 4 and 200 pounds Eric Hassli has taken the MLS by force with his goals and rough play (earn some yellow and red cards) but his skill can be just as deceiving as his size.
Barcelona 2 – AC Milan 2 (Champions League, September 13, 2011)
It's called "The Old Firm Derby" and this Sunday it will kick off again. Glasgow Rangers vs. Celtic, it will be the 396th game in this series with Rangers winning 157 matches, Celtic 143 matches and 95 draws.
Skill of the Week
Old saying goes "Luck of the Irish" well a bunch of Amateur players have made a bit of history by making it into the group stages of the Europa Cup and it's only fitting the team called "Shamrock Rovers" host the big bad Russians in their first game.
Dinamo Zagreb 0 – Real Madrid 1 (Champions League, September 14, 2011)
NK Dinamo Zagreb v Real Madrid
With 3 weeks until the Final, Seattle has sold 25,000 tickets to the US Open Cup Final on October 4th.
Manchester City 1 – Napoli 1 (Champions League, September 14, 2011)
Seattle plays DC United Saturday, United has Charlie Davies who is on a tear lately but they will be without their player of the season so far Chris Pontius. He is the guy who scored a few on Seattle last year!
Own Goal of the Week
The most powerful and prestigious soccer leagues in the world have stopped at 20. From a huge country like Brazil to a relatively small one like England, 20 clubs seem to be the limit for even the strongest circuits. Whether it’s to keep the number of games manageable, maintain the depth of the talent pool or simply a trend, 20 has become the standard, Now MLS talks 20 and beyond.
Benfica 1 – Manchester United 1 (Champions League, September 14, 2011)
"Celebration of the Week"
To fill you in, Crudeli appears on Diretta Stadio 7, which is essentially a Soccer Saturday-type programme in Italy where the fans watch the games and describe the action.
The AC Milan representative is Tiziano Crudeli who has made a name for himself over a number of years for simply being crazy and celebrating Rossoneri goals in the most outlandish manner.
Crudeli was busy right from the off on Tuesday night as he went ballistic over Alexandre Pato’s opener. Then in the video below we see him casually mention the two Barcelona goals before going crazy over Thiago Silva’s late equaliser. Quality stuff.
