Friday 30 September 2011

Last weekend Seattle beat Vancouver 3-1 claiming the "Cascadia Cup" in it's first year. Now I realize why Vancouver has been so bad as an expansion team, their fan base supports other teams!!

Fredy Montero is rapidly taking over the title of Mr. October — a phrase given to baseball great Reggie Jackson of the New York Yankees when he suddenly awoke from a season-long batting slump to lead the Yankees to World Series glory with his very timely home runs. In Montero’s case, we can call him “Mr. September” this year and “Mr. August” for last season’s MVP play during the dog days of summer.

"Looking good Billy Ray" "Feeling good Louis!" True words for the Seattle Sounders as they prepare for a road game in New England.

Even better news if your a Sounders fan!

USA has a few friendlies in October on the 8th & 11th and the German tactician has called in his 22 that will represent the USA in those games. Coming out of the cold for the first time in a long time is Beasley. We also see the new German/American Williams. US fans will have to wait a bit but we will see another German/American join the fold soon.

Here is a look at the "Americans Abroad" and the games they will play in this weekend.

Top 10 games to watch this weekend/games on TV (all times eastern)

Goals of the Week

Each year the MVP award usually generates more controversy and disagreement than the Rock ‘n’ Roll Hall of Fame nominees. (Donna Summer? Really?) Endless hours are spent discussing semantics and/or what criteria should be used to judge the MVP. Truth is, there is no right answer. Which is why I love every minute of the debate

Philadelphia Union 3 – DC United 2 (MLS, September 29, 2011)

The Keeper: How A Former Soccer Goalie Changed A Tiny Corner Of The World.

Tottenham Hotspur 3 – Shamrock Rovers 1 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has found himself in a sticky situation after being warned for allegedly eating a Krispy Kreme doughnut at a local shop without paying for it.

Sporting Braga 1 – Club Brugge 2 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

Unless there is interest from the Middle East, it looks like Tevez's most realistic move if he wants to continue to play, as Roberto Mancini has made it abundantly clear he won't pick the Argentine again after he allegedly refused to come on as a substitute against Bayern Munich this week.

Schalke 04 3 – Macabbi Haifa 1 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

He bid a tearful farewell to his teammates, sharing a long embrace with Massimo Ambrosini before being led off the pitch with Pippo Inzaghi’s arm around his shoulders. Milan's world cup winner now wears black and white!

Odense 0 – Fulham 2 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

The 31-year-old playmaker regained his spot on the national team after returning to Brazilian soccer at the start of the year. Now he wants to be on the squad in London.
"My dream is to win the gold medal in the Olympics," Ronaldinho said after Brazil's 2-0 win over Argentina in an exhibition Wednesday in Belem. "It's a title still missing in my career."

Maribor 1 – Birmingham 2 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

“It’s bad officiating, there’s no two ways about it,” Arena said. “I saw this in CONCACAF World Cup qualifying. The officiating is bad.” The question is "Can MLS teams over come it?"

Metalist 1 – AZ Alkmaar 1 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

I love a bit of history and soccer and when the two combine it always grabs my attention. Would you believe the birth place of Argentian soccer was actually in Scotland? Hard to believe that Messi, Maradona, Batitista, and Kempes all owe a debt of gratitude to a Glasgow born Alexander Hutton.

FC Twente 4 – Wisla Krakow 1 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)

Standard Liege 3 – FC Copenhagen 0 (Europa League, September 29, 2011)
