Wendesday 4 January 2011

Seattle signed another defender to assume the hole at Left Back.

One problem Seattle has had is the lack of an creative/attacking center midfielder. They will look to remedy that situation by having a current player shift to a central role? or South as in Southern Italy?

Something new this year that not everyone might have caught, Seattle will play each Western Divison Opponent 3 times this year (Portland, LA, Vancouver, RSL, Dallas, Colorado, San Jose, and Chivas) and they will only play the Eastern Division opponents once.

Weekly Sounders update on the off season and players.

Players move in the transfer window that is a given, but now we are seeing hosts and analysts leave one network for another.

Landon Donovan starts his loan with Everton today as they take on Bolton.

Manchester City 3 – Liverpool 0 (Premier League, January 3, 2012)

Two more Americans are getting looked at to take their game to Europe during the transfer window.

Tottenham 1 – West Brom 0 (Premier League, January 3, 2012)

Invariably, the comparisons will be made to between Landon Donovan on loan to Everton and Fulham’s American goal scorer Clint Dempsey, who hopes to get to a bigger club when his contract expires in the summer of 2012: “You never know your road in life, but, hopefully, Champions League is in the cards for me,” Dempsey says

Wigan 1 – Sunderland 4 (Premier League, January 3, 2012)

Philadelphia Union CEO Nick Sakiewicz knows what it’s like to manage a franchise in MLS. He had enough belief in the Philadelphia market that, “I financed the first four months on my AMEX. This year, we will be a $20 million business. I had a lot of faith. And a lot of people had trust in me.” (Guess I will be applying for an AMEX card!)

Real Madrid 3 – Malaga 2 (Copa Del Rey last-16 first leg, January 3, 2012)

They invented the game so to speak, so they only find it necessary to share it and the rules with the people of their country. England has put the offside rule on a coin for all to see.

Melbourne Heart 1 – Adelaide United 3 (A-League, January 4, 2012)

US national team fans will find this Reuters interview with USMNT boss Jurgen Klinsmann an interesting read. He says that he wants the USA to be able to compete against the world powers toe-to-toe: “We want to get closer to playing with them instead of just defending and hoping for a counter.” Lofty ideas indeed, maybe in 10 more years when the academy's of the MLS bear fruit!!

Wellington Phoenix 4 – Sydney FC 2 (A-League, January 4, 2012)

It's hard to fathom but American's will be responsible for the building of Liverpools and Tottenham's new stadiums. That is American investors willing to gamble a bit in the bond market!

Newcastle Jets 3 – Gold Coast United 2 (A-League, January 4, 2011)

There has been big changes in US Soccer over the last year at all levels with the final change happening yesterday. There should be 50 Bradenton's all over the country and then we would start winning at all levels!

Bike of the Week (disallowed but worthy of a view)

Tuesday in Brazil witnessed the latest round of the Copa Sao Paulo de Futebol Junior, and the contest between Internacional and Confianca threw up a handful of brilliant clips to savour.

The funniest moment arrived when medical assistance was sent on the pitch in order to help remove Confianca’s Arthur on the stretcher. Or at least that was the intention.

Instead what we witnessed was one of the worst helpers in the history of stretchers as poor Arthur was forced to have his head put where the sun don’t shine in a complete farce!

Skill of the Week (Both from Zlatan)

Here is a look at the first playboy/prettyboy of world soccer. Yes he is Italian!!

One Man's view of what England would be like if Soccer didn't exist! (Very Funny)
