Europa League Cup kicks off again today & tomorrow 6 spots remain open for advancement to the next round of 32, will we see Man City and whiner Tevez advance or will we see the Old Lady Juventus knock them out? Eight teams—FC Twente, Benfica, Rangers, Rubin Kazan, Basel, Spartak Moscow, Ajax and Braga—will drop into the competition from the Champions League for the last-32 stage.
We should see some big names move in today's MLS re-entry draft, I don't foresee Seattle taking anyone but Cunningham would be a great pick as a super sub since he is a proven goal scorer!!
Inter Milan wins Semi Final and will play TP Mazembe in the Club World Cup Final Saturday.
Showboat
I am a big proponent of a homegrown residential academy system in America, Real Salt Lake is the first team to buy into this also. They have done something a bit different by starting the academy in another state! It can only help the future of Soccer in the USA and also in the MLS!
TP Mazembe vs. Internacional (FIFA Club World Cup Semi) 2-0
Teal Bunbury is a name everyone should remember, the son of a Canadian professional soccer player but with an American mother he chose to play for the USA and received his first cap 11/17/2010, he went on to play with the MLS Generation Adidas team against Real Madrid, Athletico Madrid, and Rayo Vallacano, they won all 3 games and he scored 3 goals. He is now on trial/training with Stoke City of the EPL and is still scoring goals!! A very good last month for Bunbury!
Manchester United vs. Arsenal (EPL) 1-0
2010's Final FIFA rankings were released today and as World Cup Champions and all around great team Spain finished on the top of the list, some of the other spots were questionable kinda like the Vote FIFA had last week!
Valencia vs. Ossasuna (La Liga) 3-3
Your top 3 players in the World this year are Iniesta, Messi, and Xavi. All 3 play for Barcelona the problem that Barcelona is running into is that they owe $575 Million to banks. Rumor is that selling one of these 3 players will help alleviate some of the debt? Would you sell one?
Top 5 Most Embarrassing Moments on the Pitch
Some Sounders news and notes for you, as we all know the Sounders are changing their blue away jersey to the shale gray, but what we didn't know is that it will retail for $150? There is also a rumor that we will bringing in a new backup keeper? Another bit of news that came out of Sounderville is that away games at Vancouver & Portland will be limited to 500 fans, I plan on being one of those fans!!
Foul of the Week
A vast large untapped pool of talent, could it be Africa, Asia, the Middle East? No it's actually America and if can get the kids to fall in love with the game from an early age then come 2022 in Qatar we may be carrying that golden orb!
Goal of the Week nominees
More posturing coming out of Ronaldihno's camp, if he comes to LA in January will we see Donovan move the other direction at the same time or will we see Beckham, Donovan, and Ronaldihno in LA's colors next year?
Some great goals from past and present
With the round of 16 decided for the Champions league lets look back at the "Top 10 goals from the 2010/11 Champions League so far" my vote would be for #10.
Clearance of the Week
Could it be true? has his ego got the best of him? Is he to good for his teammates? Does everyone really dislike CR7 or CR9?
There have been many ways to take a PK, some have worked and some have failed miserably. Already leading 3-1 when they won an 88th minute penalty, Al Ittihad’s French midfielder Gregory Dufrennes looked certain to simply strike from goal when he placed the ball on the spot from 12-yards out. However, rather than shooting Dufrennes opted to play a sidewards pass to teammate Simon Feindouno who came storming in to smash in the set-play.
