The Merry go round of Managing Soccer teams is quick and at times profiting, just ask Rafa Benetiz. He was let go from Liverpool in England 7 months ago and now he has been Sacked from Inter Milan after Winning the Club World Cup. The severance packages in his line of work seem to make the fall from grace a little cushy!!
Special1 TV Christmas Special
Well it looks like LA's version of Los Galacticos might not come to fruition next year, Donovan will stay, Golden Balls will be in town, JPA has yet to sign a contract, and that $10 million a year offer to Ronaldinho was not enough.
Hoffenheim vs. Monchengladbach (DFB Pokal Cup) 2-0
A couple of Top 10 lists for you, first one is "Top 10 Goals of La Liga so far" and then we move to the "Top 10 Soccer Stories of the Year" and lastly is the "Top 5 Moments of MLS for 2010" not really sure they picked the right 5 but I will go with it.
It's the End of the Year Best of Stuff (All Great Goals)
In most leagues around Europe in the Winter the games are played with an Orange Ball for better visibility in the Snow. In England they have had a very hard winter so far and last weekend on 2 of the scheduled 10 games were played. What has caught on with the younger fans in England is the Orange ball that is used and with Christmas not far off many future pro's are asking Santa for the must have present of 2010!
FC Twente vs. Vitesse (KNVB Beker) 5-0
Proof that Qatar is starting a diabolical plan to take over World Football has been on display in 2010. For starters they are awarded the 2022 World Cup (or bought the world cup), then they are awarded a shirt deal on the front of the most famous team on the planet (or was that paid for too?), then to top it off they actually Won a real Soccer Game. The final straw has come from England with news that the Qatari Royal Family will offer $1.5 Billion for Manchester United soon.
Tackle of the Week (Talk about a Knockout)
In 1982 I sat on my Grandpa's lap and watched his home country win the World Cup, I was 11 and it was my first exposure to International Soccer and for that matter passion because after Italy won we ran around the neighborhood with an Italian flag screaming and my Grandpa looked on. The coach of the 1982 World Cup Winning team has passed away but his legacy lives on.
Perth Glory vs. Adelaide United (A League) 4-2
Edson Buddle is parlaying his national team stardom into a chance to prove his worth in England, Robbie Findley is doing the same. I personally hope it works out for both of them, because the USA will only reap the benefits.
Goals of the Week
The MLS has done a great thing with the new rule for Home Grown Players, which means teams can now sign an unlimited number of homegrown players per season while rosters sizes will expand to 30 players beginning in 2011. It will help the team with the reserve league and also give the younger players some experience and the pro level. Philly has already started signing them up!!
Fenerbache vs. Bucaspor (Turkiye Kupasi) 3-2
It's the MLS offseason but teams are trying to load their rosters, the Redbulls might has a surprise or two under the tree, Columbus may end up holding the cards for two players. DC re-signs their young star, a Dynamo retires to coach, rumors are also being tweeted and written, only time will tell!
Early in his career labeled a diver Messi has changed that and as you will see in this video, he try's his best to stay on his feet as much as possible. There is another player in La Liga that is the opposite and plays for Real Madrid.
The USA called in 24 kids for the January training camp and games against Chile and Egypt. Lets take a look at the roster and see what we have? Will we win with the young guns or is this purely a growing the player pool trial? Plus some cool shoes made for the 2010 USA World Cup Team.
Blooper of the Week (it's also why you pass to the keeper on the ground)
You have to admit that 2010 has been the year of Spanish Football, they showed their master class by winning their first World Cup. 2 Spanish players have been nominated for the Balon d'Or, Real Madrid and Barcelona look like the two teams to beat in the Champions League and La Liga. It makes you wonder "What will next year bring?"
Wacky Wednesday!
