The MLS announced the first games of the 2011 season yesterday and for the 3rd year in a row the Seattle Sounders will be starting off the season with the MLS first kick at home March 15th against the LA Galaxy. This could be a really interesting game if LA's off season changes come together we could see Buddle, Donovan, Juan Pablo Angel, Beckham, and Ronaldihno? For the Sounders their new midfielder Erik Friberg could make his MLS debut in the game against LA.
Everton vs. Manchester City (EPL) 2-1
As a fan and an American I had hoped for this one day, now it has happened. The fans of the EPL have voted an American Player the Best Player of the Season so far, Stuart Holden has taken his chance and excelled!
Team Work Goals
Football is not just about what you do, it is about how you do it, in Peru they showed the rest of the world that there is still a moral ground in the Beautiful Game.
Chievo vs. Juventus (Serie A) 1-1
In Scotland they have 12 teams in the SPL (Scottish Premier League) the bottom team at the end of the season is relegated, and the team with the most points is the winner. Rangers and Celtic have won the title the last 25 years, some clubs outside the strategy group will lobby for end of season play-offs to determine the SPL champions. Dolphin Kick Goal? Not something you see everyday!
We looked at the 2010/2011 season Top 10 goals in the Champions League and Europa League the last few days, now it is time for the "Top 10 Goals of the EPL" from the 2010/2011 season so far.
Lazio vs. Udinese (Serie A) 3-2
Television rights for soccer games are a lucrative market around the world. In England it is a $2 billion dollar a year deal for the EPL rights and the teams pull in about $40 million a year from it. In the USA it's another story, FSC (Fox Soccer Channel)pays about $3 million a year to the MLS. The 2011 rights are still being negotiated and the MLS is taking a hard line asking for $20 million a year, has soccer reached the viewership levels like the other 3 major sports in America?
Showboat Time
January 4th the US Men's National team kicks off their annual winter training camp. This years camp is going to be comprised of young MLS talent and players from the Scandinavian leagues. Jan 22nd against Chile will tell us where the young players stand.
Bayern Munich vs. Stuttgart (Bundesliga) 5-3
We love to watch, ridicule, criticize, and just plain yell at professional athletes when they play, but what we don't' realize is in order to make it to that field and play in front of those fans sacrifices have to be made and in most cases it is more than people know!
We have seen guys do it on Motorcycles, we have seen guys do it in Cars, now you can say you have seen a guy do it on a Snowmobile.
The Dutch brought us "Total Football" now they have done it again with "Total Fitness"
Bayern Leverkusen vs. Freiburg (Bundesliga) 2-2
Barcelona has a system of soccer and it is taught to the players starting at a young age in the academies, but even though they are taught the system they have to be allowed to play in it to bring it to fruition.
Free Kick of the Week
Come June 2011 we could see a local boy come home. I have a feeling Marcus Hahnemann will let his contract run it's course then come home and backup Keller for the remainder of the 2011 season and take the reigns in 2012!
PSV vs. Roda (Eredivisie) 3-1
