3-15-11

Game Day in the Emerald City, the boys from LA are in town and we aim to give them a bad time tonight!! It also is a day of Champions League games both in Europe and CONCACAF, for the soccer fan it is the ultimate day!!

Growing up in the Pacific Northwest in the late 70's & 80's I remember hearing the region called a "Soccer Hotbed" 25 years later no truer statement could be said!

Seattle vs. LA preview. Sounders season preview. Can Fredy use his new title tonight?

Some will tell you it is a "Critical Year for Seattle" Here is a look at the 2011 Seattle Roster.

They call him "El Presidente" or if your a forward on the other team "The Big Hurt" because that's what he will put on you.

This is the last year for Kasey Keller and retirement is a short 8 months away. 20 years in the game, 4 World Cups, EPL, La Liga, Bundesliga, what's next?

Manchester United vs. Marseille, Bayern Munich vs. Inter Milan, Watch online here.

Goal of the Week Nominee (Flying Scorpion)

If you haven't heard of Mario "Super Mario" Frick I won't hold it against you, he comes from a country of 35,000 people scrunched between Austria and Switzerland. What I can tell you is that the dream of becoming a professional soccer player no matter where you come from is shared by many but achieved by few!!!

Bike Ride of the Week

If I was to ask which British team have had the greatest impact on the formative years of European competition, who would you say? Hibernian, the first British team to play in a continental tournament? Tottenham, the first British winners of a European trophy? Perhaps Celtic, whose Lisbon Lions of ’67 defeated Helenio Herrera’s Internazionale? Would you even guess that it could be a team nicknamed Wolves?

Zaragoza 4 – Valencia 0 (La Liga, March 12, 2011)

Almost 50 players have signed with MLS clubs from abroad this winter, and while there are no marquee names such as David Beckham or Thierry Henry, there is a plethora of promising talent, especially younger players who still could develop into the league’s next stars.

Parma 1 – Napoli 3 (Serie A, March 13, 2011)

The Damn United is a movie about Brain Clough and his time coaching Leeds United, it also points out his rivalry with Don Revie who was the previous coach of Leeds United. Revie was loved by the Leeds faithful and hated by the rest of England!!

Tackle of the Week (Face Stomp)

Discounting Liverpool fans marching from a pub to the ground or Manchester United supporters wearing gold and green scarves to show their opposition to their owners, protest at football is not something we are used to in England. In Spain, public displays of disaffection by fans are a bit more common.

Cesena 2 – Juventus 2 (Serie A, March 12, 2011)

The Rivalry is 35 years old and now the title of Soccer City USA is held by Seattle, but now that Portland returns to the top flight of US Soccer the games between Seattle and Portland will see the title of "Soccer City USA" pass after each game!

Cologne 4 – Hannover 0 (Bundesliga, March 11, 2011)

Down Under the league final was just played and it was a comeback of epic proportions (or bad defense) after watching the highlights I wanted to know a bit more about the Aussie players and I found 5 Aussies and a Kiwi we might see more of as time goes by.

Arles 3 – Lorient 3 (Ligue 1, March 12, 2011)

Sometimes when players don't get on with owners or managers they are moved onto to other teams, in Poland that wasn't the case. One owner actually made a club and sent his prized player there!

Fredrikstad 3 – Stabaek 1 (Friendly, March 13, 2011)

Ferguson is a winner, a flawed genius and a national monument who deserves occasional protection from those intent on desecrating his reputation. The Manchester United manager’s actions can bring shame on the game and himself but Ferguson’s phenomenal achievements as a builder of teams, motivator of millionaires and relentless pursuer of trophies should always stir respect.

Rostov 4 – Spartak Moscow 0 (Russian Premier League, March 14, 2011)
