Happy Halloween 10-31-2011

The Seattle Sounders played Real Salt Lake Saturday night and true to form in the playoffs they kept up the tradition of not scoring or winning! It's a very big long shot come Wednesday but if they win 4-0 they advance!

On the edge of despair sums it up if your a Sounder fan!

Here is a look at how the "Americans Abroad" fared over the weekend.

Real Salt Lake 3 – Seattle Sounders 0 (MLS play-off first-leg, October 29, 2011)

After a slate of four matches filled with dramatic events at almost every turn, one thought – a query, more exactly – supersedes all others at this point.

Can the combatants – with a few exceptions, admittedly – just take a deep breath and try to keep their heads in midweek?

Colorado Rapids 0 – Sporting Kansas City 2 (MLS play-off first leg, October 30, 2011)

Very few professional soccer players have ever scored a game-winning playoff goal and shared a shutout as a goalkeeper in the same season, but Mike Magee has now performed that rare double.

Philadelphia Union 1 – Houston Dynamo 2 (MLS play-off first leg, October 30, 2011)

Speaking of national team players, with his goal for Fulham against Wigan Athletic on Saturday, Clint Dempsey equaled Brian McBride’s record for most goals by an American forward in the EPL with 36.

New York Red Bulls 0 – LA Galaxy 1 (MLS play-off first leg, October 30, 2011)

"Rafa Márquez received a red card for throwing a ball at an opponent, and Juninho received a red for striking an opponent,” said an MLS spokesperson. “I do know that it was Stephen Keel who Juninho struck. I don’t know the identity of the player who the ball was thrown at, but I know Márquez threw a ball at an LA Galaxy player and that’s why he received the red card.”

When Jone Samuelsen scored that header for Odd Grenland against Tromso at the back-end of September 2011, it felt that a new world record for the longest header ever had been set that it would take an eternity to better.

In reality it took only 36 days for Ryujiro Ueda to steal that crown.

Sunday in the second division in Japan, little known Fagiano Okayama centre-half Ryujiro Ueda scored an amazing 58-yard header against Yokohama FC. Aside from being the only goal of the contest, Ueda’s long-range header beat Samuelsen’s world-record setting effort by one crucial yard.

A large slice of credit for the goal must go to Yokohama goalkeeper Kentro Seki, who did particularly badly in allowing a header from the Fagiano half to end up in his net.

Terry has been accused of racially abusing QPR defender Ferdinand during Chelsea's recent 1-0 defeat at Loftus Road, and a complaint was subsequently lodged with the FA.

Tottenham 3 – QPR 1 (Premier League, October 30, 2011)

On November 6, Sir Alex Ferguson will celebrate 25 years in charge of Manchester United. He has some way to go to match the tenures of the likes of Fred Everiss, Guy Roux, Willie Maley and Bill Struth but, in the modern era and at so famous a club, it is an achievement that cannot be overstated.

Atletico Madrid 3 – Real Zaragoza 1 (La Liga, October 30, 2011)

Gerrard's England ambitions left hanging in balance after latest injury.

Bologna 3 – Atalanta 1 (Serie A, October 30, 2011)

Three Americans rang the bell abroad this weekend, with Anderlecht midfielder Sacha Kljestan hitting for a goal and assist in the Belgian leaders' 4-0 waltz past Lierse.

Gold Coast United 3 – Newcastle Jets 1 (A-League, October 30, 2011)

'Rolls Reus' is the latest star off Germany's production line

Marco Reus's brilliance is a mixed blessing for Borussia Mönchengladbach, who fear losing him to Bayern Munich

Anderlecht 4 – Lierse 0 (Jupiler League, October 30, 2011)
